General impression of focus of well-being for students
This large institution has a general focus of overall wellness. For such a large institution, there is a lack of information available. The merger of UTSA and UT Health will likely increase in services provided to students, but at the time of writing, it is not clear how students can benefit from both institutions’ services regarding counseling. Per current UTSA students reporting a podcast, there is a lack of awareness for services offered for students. It is clear that the Wellness 360 Center is a great support for students who are in need of counseling, however it is unclear how long wait times are, hence the need for the virtual platform. The recovery community appears very strong as well as support for those who have experience sexual violence, and those in the LGBTQIA+ community.
When will students get referred out and to whom?
Students get 8 (1 hour) counseling sessions per academic semester. No information available regarding who helps with the referral process.
